From Resisting to Resting

And He said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed." —Genesis 32:28

Jacob, the son of Isaac and the grandson of Abraham, was a conniver. He just couldn't wait on God's timing. On the day that Jacob and his twin brother Esau were born, Esau came first, with Jacob holding on to his brother's foot. That is how Jacob earned his name, which means "heel-catcher." When they were older, Jacob not only convinced Esau to sell him his birthright for some stew, but he also tricked their father into giving him the blessing that was intended for Esau. Esau wanted to kill him, so Jacob went into exile and ended up working for a guy he really deserved: Laban, who was as much of a conniver as Jacob was.

Eventually Jacob made the journey back home again, and on the way, the Bible tells us in Genesis 32 that "Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day" (verse 24). It was as though God said, "You are always struggling and fighting with me, so let's go for it."

Now Jacob was one tough guy, and he wouldn't give up. Consequently, God touched the socket of his hip so that it was out of joint. That made Jacob cling to this messenger from heaven, and he said, "I will not let You go unless You bless me!" (verse 26). Jacob went from resisting to resting. Instead of fighting with God, he was surrendering to God, so God gave him a new name.

Are you wrestling with God? We wrestle with Him when He reveals His will to us and we say we want our will instead. How much better it is when we surrender to Him. Corrie ten Boom said, "Don't wrestle, just nestle." Don't fight with the One who has your best interests in mind.

Nowhere Else to Go

From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety. —Psalm 61:2

A grieving father recently asked me, "What words helped you?"

I told him, "Well, I don't know what words helped me. I just know who helped me. And I know where I needed to turn. I need to turn to Jesus."

When we are burdened, when we are overwhelmed, we need to come to Jesus. There really is nowhere else to go. Jesus did not say that when you are burdened or overwhelmed, you should go to counseling. Nor did He say you should just go read a book, or even go to church or go hear a sermon—although these things are good. Ultimately, the answer is to go to Jesus.

Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). The invitation simply was, "Come to Me"—not "Come to My teachings," although it could include that. Nor did He say, "Make changes in your life and come to Me." It simply was, "Come to Me."

The psalmist declared, "From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety."

Yet modern culture would say something different. It would say, "Well, if you can, just get that promotion. If you can, just get that house. If you can, just take that vacation. Then you will find rest." Materialism would say, "Build it up, and you will find rest." Pleasure mania would say, "Live it up, and you will find rest." Religion would say, "Keep it up, and you will find rest."

But Jesus says, "Come to Me, and you will find rest." It is not so much that we need words—we need the Living Word. When we are under pressure, we need Jesus.

Struggling with Doubt

And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?" —Matthew 11:2

It may surprise you to know that some of the greatest men and women of God whom we read about in the pages of Scripture have had their moments of doubt. Even the greatest of the Old Testament prophets, John the Baptist, struggled with doubt.

In John's case, we might say that his doubt was due to confusion. He had a certain concept of what the Christ was supposed to do that Jesus simply was not doing. It is not that Jesus was failing to do what He was supposed to do; it was that John misunderstood what God was going to do.

Scripture clearly taught that before the Messiah would establish His kingdom, He would suffer and die. Before Jesus would sit on a throne, He first would be nailed to a cross. This is what the Scripture taught. Passages like Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53 spoke extensively about the suffering of the Messiah. But His role had been misunderstood. So John the Baptist sent word from prison to ask Jesus, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?" (Matthew 11:2). Yet everything was going exactly as it was supposed to go. It is just that John misunderstood.

That can happen to us as well. Sometimes we misunderstand God and His Word. Something happens that wasn't part of our plan for our lives, and we wonder why God allowed it. We wonder whether He is paying attention. The problem is that we interpret God in light of the tragedy instead of the other way around. Many times, our doubt is due to our confusion about what we think God ought to be doing.

Are you entertaining doubts today? Take heart. God is in control, and He has His purposes in the circumstances of your life.

Power for a Purpose

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." —Acts 1:8

When Alfred Nobel discovered an explosive element that was stronger than anything the world had known at the time, he asked a friend and Greek scholar for a word that conveyed the meaning of explosive power. The Greek word was dunamis, and Nobel named his invention "dynamite."

Dunamis is the same word that Jesus used when He told His disciples, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" (Acts 1:8). In other words, "You shall receive explosive, dynamite power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you."

Think about how this power transformed the first-century believers. Prior to Pentecost, Simon Peter couldn't stand up for his faith when strangers asked him if he was a follower of Jesus. After the power of the Holy Spirit was poured out on Pentecost, Peter stood up and boldly preached the gospel, resulting in 3,000 people being saved.

After Saul of Tarsus became a believer on the Damascus Road, God led Ananias to go and pray for him. He was then filled with the Holy Spirit, and from that moment on, he went out and proclaimed Christ in the synagogues.

This power is for a purpose. It is not power to be crazy or power to do weird things. It is power to be a witness . . . power to have the courage to tell someone about Jesus Christ . . . power to tell people about what Jesus has done for you.

Do you have this power in your life? Do you feel like something is lacking in your spiritual walk? Then you, my friend, are a candidate for the empowering of the Holy Spirit.

《流浪漢世界盃》電影晚會

四年一度的世界盃足球決賽週，全球哄動，舉世矚目。冠軍隊風光的情景，羨煞旁人。凱旋返國，萬眾歡迎。但是，冠軍祇有一隊，其他的大都被判為失敗者。所受的待遇真有天淵之別。其實，能入八強的球隊，已是非常優越。場上的拚勁、背後的工夫，都顯出不屈不撓的精神，令人敬佩。
「流浪漢世界杯」，並未受人注目。但仔細一想，要組織一班流浪漢成為足球隊，談何容易？要他們遵守紀律、和平相處、克苦練習，已是難若登天。更遑論要他們成為出色的球隊！故此，「流浪漢世界杯」的得勝隊伍，更值得欣賞。他們永不放棄的精神，能創造奇蹟。

當你的小木屋著火時

在一場船難中，唯一的生存者隨著潮水，漂流到了一座無人島上。他天天激動地祈禱神救他能夠早日離開此處，回到家鄉。他還每天注視著海上有否可搭救他的人，但卻是除了汪洋一片，什麼也沒有。後來，他決定用那片帶他到小島的木頭造一個簡陋的小木屋以保護他在這險惡的環境中生存，並且保存他所有剩下的東西。
但有一天，在他捕完食物後，準備回小屋時，突然發現他的小屋竟然陷在熊熊烈火之中，大火引起的濃煙不斷向天上竄。最悲慘的是：他所有的一切東西，在這一瞬間，通通化為烏有了。悲痛的他，氣憤的對天吶喊著：「神啊！你怎麼可以這樣對待我！」頓時，眼淚從他的眼角中流出。
第二天一早，他被一艘正靠近小島的船隻的鳴笛聲所吵醒。是的，有人來救他了。到了船上時，他問那些船員說：「你怎麼知道我在這裡？」「因為我們看到了信號般的濃煙。」他們回答說。
人在碰到困難時，很容易會沮喪。不過，無論受到折磨或者痛苦，都不用因此失去信心，因為上帝一直在我們心裡面做著奇妙的工作。
記著：當下一次你的小木屋著火時，那可能只是上帝美妙恩典的表徵而已。

神有正面答案

每一個人都會面臨失敗, 如考試失敗、人際關係失敗、事業失敗、感情失敗…,
無論你面臨的是那一種失敗, 只要你有勇氣再站起來, 你的失敗就只是「暫時」; 但如果你就此一蹶不振, 那麼你的失敗就會是「永遠的」。你的失敗是暫時的抑或永遠的, 選舉權在於你自己, 在於你能否「跌倒了, 再爬起來」!
親愛的朋友, 人, 可以失敗, 但是不要「失志」! 可以失敗, 但是千萬不要丟了志氣。決定未來最大的關鍵在於「志力」, 而非「智力」, 在於你的志氣, 而不僅在於你的智商。「不倒翁」不是永遠推不倒, 而是它倒了以後會再站起來; 成功的人不是不曾失敗, 而是他們失敗了以後會再站起來。若不灰心, 到了時候必要收成。

時間, 是上帝賜給每個人的資產, 且每個人的所得都一樣, 每個人都是一天二十四個小時, 有人用得巧妙無比, 有人用得一榻糊塗。
我不敢説時間管理做得好的人一定會成功, 但我敢保證成功者的時間管理一定都是不錯的!
天才, 是那些懂得珍惜、善用時間的人, 你不駕馭時間, 時間就會反過來奴役你。

When You Don't Know What to Pray
"And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever."
--John 14:16
There are times when we don't really know what or how to pray.
Maybe you are overwhelmed by a burden. You find yourself discouraged, depressed, and overwhelmed. It is at that point that the Holy Spirit will help you.
Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as a "comforter." In John 14:16, He said, "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever" (KJV).

The Comforter
We have lost the meaning of the word "comforter." It comes from the Greek word Paracletos, which means "called alongside to help," a helper, aide, or assistant.
Some versions translate Paracletos as the word "advocate," which is applied to Jesus in 1 John 2:1: "If anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous."
The purpose of an advocate is to plead the cause of another, an intercessor. This is part of the work that the Holy Spirit has come to do in your life.

Sometimes a sigh will do
Why? Because we don't always have to put words to our prayers.
Here's the good news--sometimes just a sigh or groan will do. The Holy Spirit will do the rest.
Trust me, I have done this many times, especially recently. I don't know what to say, or how to say it. I just know that I am in pain, so I sigh, I groan, and sometimes I cry.
That's where the Holy Spirit comes in. As Romans 8:26-27 tells us, "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God."

Today is the National Day of Prayer. Remember to pray for our nation regularly, but especially today!

The Key to Answered Prayer
"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you."--John 15:7

How often have you felt that your prayers were hitting a glass ceiling--as though the Lord were saying no?
Maybe it is because you are praying outside of His will. Maybe it is because you were praying for something that God didn't want you to have.
We need to remember the promise Jesus spoke of in John 15, which says, "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." Another translation puts it this way: "If you maintain a living communion with Me and My words are at home with you, you can ask at once for yourself whatever your heart desires, and it is yours."
I really like that translation--especially the part that tells us to ask at once whatever our hearts desire. But let's remember the condition: "If you maintain a living communion with Me and My words are at home with you. . . . "
If you are maintaining a living communion with God, and His words are at home with you, then your desires going to change. Your prayers will not necessarily be the same as they were before.
As you get in sync with the will of God, you'll see that prayer is not getting God to do what you want Him to do, but that prayer is getting you to do what God wants you to do.
You will discover the important truth that prayer is not bending God our way--it is bending us His way. And then, you just may see your prayers being answered in the affirmative.

Q: “What is God’s ultimate goal for my life as a working person?”
A: What God wants to do most in your life is to make you more like Jesus. God’s primary concern is your spiritual growth, not your success in the corporate world. God will allow whatever is necessary into your life – both on the job, and off – to help you grow to become more like Jesus.

Q: “How should I model Christ to the people I work with?”
A: Those who do business with you should see evidence of God’s work in your life and be drawn to God themselves as a result. Make sure your business decisions reflect complete honesty and integrity. Forgive those who mistreat you. Treat people with kindness, patience, and generosity. Be humble in both good and bad times. Aim to let people see God working through your life.

Q: “How can I stay strong when I’m the only Christian at my workplace?”
A: The key is to work with other people outside your workplace to keep yourself accountable to living faithfully. Ask your friends and family to pray for you, and make sure that you have at least one accountability partner (your spouse, a friend, etc.) with whom you can regularly discuss your life at work and who can encourage and support you in your faith.

Q: “How do I stay humble and still succeed in the fiercely competitive business world?”
A: Recognize that whatever success you’ve been able to achieve is thanks to God giving you opportunities and empowering you. Derive your sense of self-worth from your relationship with God so you’re not in bondage to other people’s praise and affirmation. When you understand who you are, and who God is, you can become a person of great influence at work.

2. 注意事項

A. 工作實在是勞苦的
「弟兄們，你們記念我們的辛苦勞碌，晝夜做工，傳神的福音給你們，免得叫你們一人受累。」帖前2:9
「也未嘗白吃人的飯，倒是辛苦勞碌，晝夜做工，免得叫你們一人受累。」帖後3:8

--聖經明說人是要勞苦的，連保羅為不連累人，也要工作，他是辛苦勞碌，晝夜作工的，基督徒不可以因工作勞苦而逃避工作，也不應看那份工作辛不辛苦而為自己主要選擇工作的最重要因素

B. 工作過後要休息的
「天地萬物都造齊了。到第七日，神造物的工已經完畢，就在第七日歇了他一切的工，安息了。神賜福給第七日，定為聖日；因為在這日，神歇了他一切創造的工，就安息了。」創2:1-3

--神的心意要人工作，但祂也想人安息的，祂期望人做了六日工作後，有一日安息，這安息是憑信心分別出來(賺少了一日)，是歸神的，是記念神的創造與拯救，也是休息日子，所以若一份工作，一星期中沒有一日，人可以分別出來歸神，記念神，享安息的日子，似乎違反了神創造的心意

C. 工作完後可享受的
「我知道世人，莫強如終身喜樂行善；並且人人吃喝，在他一切勞碌中享福，這也是神的恩賜。」傳3:12-13

--人可以享受勞碌過後的成果，可以吃喝，歡樂，這是神的恩賜，但人若工作過程中，連享受的工夫也沒有了，只顧不息的作工，而缺少享受完成後的成果，此乎也不是神的心意。

上次週會我們一同去探討聖經在工作方面的教導和分享個人的見証. 在未來的幾天我們會把當中的內容分段放在這裡作回顧.

1.工作原因

A. 不變定律
「又對亞當說：你既聽從妻子的話，吃了我所吩咐你不可吃的那樹上的果子，地必為你的緣故受咒詛；你必終身勞苦才能從地裡得吃的。地必給你長出荊棘和蒺藜來；你也要吃田間的菜蔬。你必汗流滿面才得糊口，直到你歸了土，因為你是從土而出的。你本是塵土，仍要歸於塵土。」創3:17-19

--人犯罪後，地受咒詛，人必須汗流滿面，才得糊口，這是不變的定律，神的旨意，信主的人更當順服，但到主回來的時候，我們就可得真正的安息。

B. 聖經吩咐
「我們在你們那裡的時候，曾吩咐你們說，若有人不肯做工，就不可吃飯。」帖後3:10

C. 為得糊口

「我們靠主耶穌基督吩咐、勸戒這樣的人，要安靜做工，吃自己的飯。」帖後3:12

D. 管理使命
「神就賜福給他們，又對他們說：「要生養眾多，遍滿地面，治理這地，也要管理海裡的魚、空中的鳥，和地上各樣行動的活物。」」創1:28

--即使沒有亞當犯罪，人仍要工作，是要好好管理神所創造的天地萬物。

E. 不連累人
「你們自己原知道應當怎樣效法我們。因為我們在你們中間，未嘗不按規矩而行，也未嘗白吃人的飯，倒是辛苦勞碌，晝夜做工，免得叫你們一人受累。」帖後3:7-8

F. 扶助別人
「從前偷竊的，不要再偷；總要勞力，親手做正經事，就可有餘分給那缺少的人。」弗4:28
「我凡事給你們作榜樣，叫你們知道應當這樣勞苦，扶助軟弱的人，又當記念主耶穌的話，說：『施比受更為有福。』」徒20:35

--原來工作有一個崇高的目的，是要得更多，甚至有餘來扶助有需要的人。

G. 事奉基督
「你們作僕人的，要懼怕戰兢，用誠實的心聽從你們肉身的主人，好像聽從基督一般。不要只在眼前事奉，像是討人喜歡的，要像基督的僕人，從心裡遵行神的旨意。甘心事奉，好像服事主，不像服事人。」弗6:5-7

神與我們的關係

不知上帝在您心目中扮演何種角色? 不可否認, 我們的上帝是一位全能的保護者, 也是慈愛的父親, 衪賜予我們許多寶貴的話語, 如:「我在急難中求告耶和華, 衪就應允我, 把我安置在寬闊之地。」(詩118:5); 「我在急難中求告耶和華, 衪就應允我。」(詩120:1)。諸如此類的經節不勝枚舉, 為無數苦難中的人們帶來盼望。但如果我們把「求告」當做自己信仰生活中的唯一, 或當做與神關係唯一的互動, 就顯得有些美中不足。
我們與神的關係是父子, 你難道一天到晚只會對你爸爸説:「爸爸, 救我吧!」就什麼也沒説嗎? 上帝不是神燈的精靈, 擦一擦就出來, 問題解決了就回去。聖經上教導我們:「要向耶和華唱新歌, 全地都要向耶和華唱。」(詩96:2) 。上帝在我們信仰中的地位, 不應只是避難所, 更是配得服事、稱頌的父神。基督徒不要光是懂得求靠衪,「要」衪做事, 更應懂得服事衪,「為」衪做事; 我們不能做個「只拿不給」的基督徒。
如果你和上帝的關係只限於患難中的求告, 很好, 因為對你而言, 你所擁有的上帝將是一位全能的保護者; 但如果你和上帝的關係能著重於平時對衪的服事、敬愛, 那是更好, 因為你擁有的上帝將是一位慈愛的父親。

幸福在那裡?

有沒有聽過一則童話故事 : 很久很久以前 , 在一座森林裡面住著一隻獅子媽媽和她的小獅子寶寶。有一天 , 好奇的小獅子寶寶問了媽媽一個問題 :「媽咪 , 幸福到底在哪裡呢 ?」媽媽笑笑回答説 :「幸福就在你的尾巴上呀!」獅子寶寶一聽 , 心裡好疑惑 ,「在我的尾巴上 ?」牠想 :「如果我能咬住自己的尾巴 , 就能捉住幸福了 !」

於是小獅子開始追著自己的尾巴跑 ! 但是無論牠再怎樣努力的跑 , 卻永遠也追不到 , 牠好傷心、好傷心。獅子媽媽慈祥地笑笑 , 拍拍牠的肩膀説 :「傻孩子 ! 幸福就在你的尾巴上 , 只要你不停的往前走 , 它就會一直跟在你身後喔 !」

今天神是否也對我們説 : 「在信心的道路上 , 只要你不停的向前走 , 「幸福就會跟在你身後喔 !」的確 , 神對我們每個人都有應許、計劃 , 只要我們信 , 衪就必成就。詩篇告訴我們 :「當將你的事交託耶和華 , 並倚靠衪 , 衪就必成全。」( 詩37:5 )

人 , 無論再如何高明 , 都不可能用自己的方法、倚靠自己的小聰明來成就大事的 , 但不要把「凡事交託」當成偷懶、怠惰的藉口 , 且整日説 : 「我已把結果交給神了 !」然後都不必做事 , 光禱告就夠了 ! 其實所謂的交託 , 是有信賴、倚靠的意思 , 只要我們把努力的經過交給神, 並且相信衪能為我們成就結果 , 這才是交託。除了倚靠、信心之外 , 還要加上了自身的付出 , 不要只懂得把自己的成敗責任推給神。交託與努力就如車之雙軸、舟之雙槳一般 , 缺一不可。

我們乃是應當對神充滿信心 , 凡事交託、信靠地走在人生大道上 , 一旦走出去 , 應許就會跟著成就。現在的您 , 是否仍在問神 : 「神啊 ! 我的幸福在那裡呢 ?」

哈哈哈!!! 這一天終於到了

哈哈哈!!! 這一天終於到了. 不經不覺我來了這個教會/團契2年了. 這2年間, 發生了不少事情, 有些令我感觸良多, 最感恩既其中一件事莫過於星期五學生團契的成立. 記得一開始時csu學生只有我一個, 但是現在有很多了. 很開心見到多左同學一齊返教會, 只要有一個人相信耶誕, 就連天使都為他/她歡喜. 還有背後付出了很多的弟兄姊妹, 為著他們我獻上感恩.

這2天收拾東西時, 才知道我跟你們的關係是多麼的深. 一邊執, 那些東西令我回想起以前跟你們相處的時光. 多謝你們一開始時接納我, 雖然你們大部分都要上班, 但每次團契都樂也融融.

我知道讀書, 甚至transfer這個機會來得不易, 我會好好讀書.

其實我已經坐在電腦前面打這些好久了, 我有很多野想講, 但不知如何講. 不過都2年啦, 你們應該明白我的. 最後, 真的很多謝你們每一個, 在不同方面set了很好的examples 給我. 祝你們靠神得力, 天天過得有意義.

這個星期的經文告訴我們, 不論我們做甚麼事, 都要憑著愛心去做。這個愛心由神而來, 目標亦是要去愛神和愛人, 但是我們也許有些時候比較多愛自己, 顧念的是自己的需要, 方便和喜好。星期六下午我們將分別去探訪教會中的兩位老人家,可能會擔心因年齡和人生經歷的距離而不知道如何去互動, 但是我們在神面前首先要祈求的, 就是那一顆愛神愛人的心, 相信神必賜我們合宜的說話。但願這句經文成為你我這星期在禱告和生活上的照明燈。

這個星期六我們會到Brentwood採櫻桃, 所以所選的經文也是跟果子有關係。相信主耶穌的人, 神已把聖靈賜下, 在我們裡面去引領和教導我們, 讓我們的屬靈生命成長。仁愛、喜樂、平安、忍耐、恩慈、良善、信實、溫柔和節制都是屬靈生命成長的果效, 是自然的流露。我們看到這裡不是說只要結其中的一些果子就可以，而是全部都是聖靈的果子，是完整的基督徒品格和態度。也許我們在某些方面好像有比較好的效果, 那是值得感恩的；也有些方面還有不足的地方, 但都不要放棄, 學習把自己放下, 聽一聽聖靈在裡面的聲音。一顆順服的心是生根結果最理想的土壤。

也請繼續為中國四川的災民和工作人員禱告, 讓神的安慰, 平安, 保護和供應臨到他們。

說到同心, 我們也為到佳陵獻上感謝和求神的祝福, 我們每一個人也捨不得她的離去, 也十分珍惜神讓我們相處的這一段時間, 求神引領她回到台灣的日子, 並給她勇氣和信心去迎接前面神已為她預備的道路。大家也可以在這個post留言。

Alvin的分享--耶穌是我的希望

昨天主曰崇拜, 我們唱了一首很簡單的詩歌, 名叫<<耶穌是我的希望>>, 還記得嗎? 很久沒有唱這首歌了, 但依然很感動人, 最少它仍然觸動了我的心靈, 在台上和詩班一起唱時, 我耍強忍著眼淚。在唱到 “耶穌在我沮喪之時，令我都可讚美” 那一句時, 腦海中汎起了過去最傷痛的片段, 那份迷惘和絕望的感受仍是十分真實; 同樣清晰的記憶裏, 也滿有當天神如何給我安慰, 如何讓我再站起來。有些時候, 人在傷痛中, 最先的著眼點就是「傷」, 就是「痛」, 尋求安慰憐恤; 讚美? 太遙遠了吧! 在我「康復」後, 我自會感謝讚美, 這或許也可說是人之常情。
但是像那句歌詞說, 這一個希望帶來的, 不只是留戀於沉默中的安靜, 還可以讓我們再踏前一步去讚美。我記得在那段日子, 我最愛聽的不是安慰的詩歌, 而是讚美神的歌, 因為可以幫助我去把神放在一切的中心, 而不是我自己, 我的不安, 更不是自憐和自憫. 在讚美聲中, 神比我的問題大很多, 他所知所預備的比我眼前未知的深遠很多。這就是一個可信的希望, 喜樂的源頭。
我對2008年的開始仍感到迷惘, 有點無所適從。這首歌和過去的經歷, 正好提醒我自己, 最好的開始就是先把神放在生命的中央, 在每天生活的中心.

耶穌在我沮喪之時，令我都可讚美。

Aggie的分享 -- 我爱我主

曾有人，绝大部分的人认为，宗教信仰只是一种心灵抚慰，曾经的我也是这大部分中的一员，只是不同的是，我从来就不是纯粹的唯物主义者－－相信这世界上的某个角落里有神奇的力量支配着生命的一切，具体是什么，曾经的我，说不清楚。自从认识了基督，主给了我一切想要的答案，我想说的是，我不仅仅只是得到了答案，而是得到今生所接受的一份最大的礼物，主用他伟大的能陶造我新的生命。当我还在困惑什么是人生，还在困惑什么是主爱的漩涡里打转转时，在一日日的困惑中倦怠，浪费时日时，主终于在前路点燃了一盏明灯，用它的光警醒我的心。

没有接受主的人不会体会什么是主爱，没有体会过主爱的人，又不会了解主爱的伟大。接受主，被圣灵陶造是件幸运而又幸福的事。圣灵感动是一种说不出来的感觉，除了心灵清明之外，其他大部的感觉是对主的感激，想想怎样感激主的救赎与恩典，无论是颂扬，奉献，我们所献上一切的一切都仍比拟不了主爱－－因为他的爱太过伟大，世间一切无可比拟。爱的构成本来就是双向性的，只有主爱，这不是爱，还要有我尽心，尽性，尽意爱主，才是完整的爱。
很幸福的今天强烈的感受到了主爱，很兴奋写出来与大家分享，很坚定的说一句：我爱我主！

Probably we can make the question a bit more personal and ask ourselves "What does Christmas mean to me?" Remember that it was not just one night when a baby arrived. It was the coming of Lord Jesus for a reason. Think of who He is and what He would do in the next 30+ years on earth. Think of what He has done and paid for you and me. The birth of that baby is really something special and personal to us.

這是很有意思的一天, 在感恩節的週未可以與一班公公婆婆相聚, 藉著詩歌, 遊戲和小禮物分享從神而來的愛與關懷, 最開心是能夠跟他們閒話家常. 希望大家繼續為這班長者禱告, 亦盼望我們可以將來定期的探望他們, 知道一般不是太多團體去探訪這一所養老院, 那裡的負責人都很感謝大家的熱心.

Genuine Salvation

This Sat we will study 2 Peter 2:10-22 and it talks about false prophets and false teachers. I came across this article this morning and it is somewhat related. We need to be careful of what we think we believe and let's not be misled that being a Christian means everything will go smoothly in life. However, God do promise us peace and strength and shelter at difficult times. -Alvin

"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."
--Matthew 7:13--14
Many people today have essentially believed a watered-down gospel that deletes the message of repentance. They believe in an all-caring, nonjudgmental God who requires no repentance or a change in their lifestyle. They will say things like, "I believe in Jesus Christ, but my God is not judgmental. My God would never send a person to hell. But I am a Christian."
Yet they cannot have it both ways. They can't make it up as they go.
There are many people, even in the church, who hold to a watered-down belief. This diluted gospel may be the most dangerous plague the church is facing today, because it gives a sense of false assurance to the person who believes it.
The Bible speaks of false prophets who give false assurance. In Jeremiah 6:14, God says, "They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, saying, 'Peace, peace!' when there is no peace."
It would be like going to the doctor when you are having a heart attack, and having the doctor tell you, "Oh, you are fine. You are being so dramatic! You will be OK."
There are ministers today who say, "God loves you and everything is fine. You can do whatever you want and live however you want to live. Let's just love one another and have a great time."
But that is a false gospel. Yes, God loves us. Yes, God receives any person who comes to Him. But He asks us to repent. He asks us to turn from our sins. If we are not willing to do so, then we are not experiencing biblical faith. And thus, we are not going to receive what the Bible describes as genuine salvation.

I want to share you guys an event happening during 12:00A.M to 6:30A.M on Nov. 3 2007.The event in brief is as follow,

A student living I-house of CSU East Bay called me at around 12:00 A.M,telling me that her classmate got serious disease and asking me whether I could take them to a hospital.Actually I didn't know how to handle the issue at that time. and I didn't know who was calling me.I called Didio first.As you know,she is a nurse.Then I called Pastor,who told me that he will meet us soon.I went to I-house to see two students.I realized that I knew the student calling me,but I didn't know her name.Patient was a guy.Actually it's first time to meet him.After a while Pastor and Didio came over .Based on the insurance,Didio took me and other two students along with Pastor to a hospital located in Tennyson street.

A couple of patients waited for doctors.Until around 3:00A.M,a nurse called the student.Unfortunately,he had to wait for about an hour to see doctor.Pastor took me and female student back.Didio accompanied the another student to see doctor.I still remembered time when I got back,it's 3:25 A.M.After the student saw doctor,he can't get medicine in the hospital.Didio went to several pharmacies.Since most of pharmacies were closed at that time.Finally she found the medicines that the student needed.It's around 6:30 A.M when Didio went back her home.

I very appreciate what Pastor and Didio did.I want to give special thanks to Pastor and Didio.Without her,I don't know how to handle that issue. since I don't know where I should go.Without her,I can't know how to talk with doctor since my English is limited.Without her,I don't know where I should go to get medicine.Thank you,Didio and Pastor.Thank you for you guys love to CSUEB's students.

As you know,Pastor built up the CSUEB student fellowship one month ago.I further understand love from God and from all of you through the fellowship.Pastor,Didio,Joyce,Jeff,Alvin spend much time with students,preparing delicious foods for them and helping them including me to improve English.Alvin's mother and Selena's mother also cook foods for the fellowship.Because of love,all of you try to help students from China.Because of love,all of you are the channel of God.Because of love,all of you keep the fellowship into your pray.

I went to pray meeting in Castro Valley a couple of weeks ago.I'm deeply moved by what brothers and sister did.They tried to figure out ways to help student,to build up closer relationship with them.A power push me to tear.I'm sure it's love from God and love from all of you.Thank you for all of you.All of you are my encouragement.When I see you,I realize that we need to work together to outreach to students from China.

When I think about the fellowship,I give thanks to God putting the burden to all of you.We are a team in which God head us.I'm sure God's goal will be fulfilled through His way.He will make a way for us.Actually he is making a way for us to help students from China.step by Step,they could come to know God's love.

I'm very delighted that Dawei,a student from China,accepted God on outreaching night.I knew her when I took her to Bestbuy in Union City.Another student named Mozes told her I'm a Christan.She asked me whether I can take her to church.Because her father hoped she could go to church when she was in China.This is why Dawei goes to our church.More amazing,she accepted God through a special thing,through which Pastor and Didio helped her a lot.She realizes that all of us are helping her and loving her.God has led students from China to our doorstep.What we need to do is to help them and love them.Finally we could lead them to come to God.It's hard job.But no job is better than working for Him.

Joan - 上一年的佈道會

如果沒有記錯, 上一年的佈道會是在10/21/2006.
還有8天就到今年的佈道會. 雖然不是同一天,但也感觸良多.
身在Irvine的我仍很緊張CCCAC的一切, 久不久問下佈道會準備的進度, 有甚麼困難, 又會問中文班, 詩班和弟兄姊妹的事. 當Lawrence話我知找不到 greeter 的時候,我真的後想回去幫手……
記得一年前的我就以一個guess的身份走進正堂聽佈道會, 和Janet 坐在林修榮和牧師後面. 一切感動了我, 特別是Alvin的那首歌. 於是戰戰競競地站起來, 一直合着眼低着頭, 不敢看. 決志後走出正堂的我, 就似初生嬰兒, 重生的感覺, 也帶着一點兒害怕的感覺.(可能因為這也是我人生中重要的決定. 父母在場,而旁邊又是一個剛認識的Janet, 在衆人下作的決定, 不免有點害怕). 邊走出正堂,邊有人恭喜我,最記得, Alvin, Joyce, Felix等人在後面等我, 紛紛和我握手, Joyce 還擁抱我. Alvin 話 “呢期最紅係你啦” 哈哈.
一年這樣就過去, 今年我再不是guess, 所以好想幫手, 做greeter也好. 不竟我的開始是在CCCAC的佈道會, 可惜我不在Bay area. 我做到的只有拍了一個不知道work 唔work 的見證video 及不斷為你們祈禱. 加油呀, 弟兄姊妹!!! 支持你地, 更支持牧師!!! 唱好D呀 Alvin, 詩班都係呀~ 快D背好首 “尋找”啦!!
當別人問我 “Joan, 你係邊間教會?” 我以前會猶疑, 因為曾有人話我不是屬CCCAC的,我不是CCCAC的member. 但經過昨晚後, 我以後可以好肯定的向人說 : “I am from CCCAC” 因為我在CCCAC找到歸屬感, 那裏是我屬靈的家

彼得後書1:12-21
在經文中, 我們看見彼得雖然他自知時日無多, 仍苦口婆心地循循善誘要留下這些重要的話, 幫助各時代的信徒.

信徒處在這世代中, 如逆水行舟, 若非不斷追求屬靈品德上長進, 生命要結出信心、德行、知識、節制、忍耐、虔敬和愛的性情, 便很容易被今世的風俗、罪惡的習慣、人的道理、各種壞潮流, 漸漸將我們屬靈的眼光蒙蔽, 以致我們的心思、意志和觀念，也漸受其影響, 便漸漸看不見屬靈之事的美好, 慚漸效法世界的樣式.

信主的年日日增, 在教會中的資歷愈來愈「老」, 對各種道理的知識愈來愈多, 信徒以為自己在某方面的真理已十分熟識, 已經聽過, 便忽略了它, 自己可以不必再受題醒, 甚至聽到別人提及自己所熟識的真道時, 便十分傲慢地輕視別人, 以為自己所知的比別人多 , 結果必然會驕傲自大. 信徒要在真道上堅固, 彼此題醒, 不可放鬆、懈怠.

當時有異端或假傳道 , 隨自己的意思講解聖經的話, 傳錯誤的道理, 引誘信徒, 以致有些信徒對主再來之真道發生疑惑. 所以彼得在此再一次堅固他們的信心, 使他們知道使徒對他們所曾傳講有關主再來的事, 絕非使徒憑個人意思推測出來的道理, 乃是直接從神得到的啟示, 也是彼得親身經歷, 親自聽見的, 在此特別題醒信徒, 這位要來的耶穌基督, 乃是神所親自印證是祂愛子的那一位, 使他們深信主再來之真確.

請不要忘記對基督徒來說, 生命中最重要的事就是跟上帝有好的關係. 這是我們所有優先次序中的第一位.

第二件我們需要的提醒是, 不要忘記神在我們身上的作為. 彼得用了他的兩個親身經歷來提醒我們.

第三件基督徒不能忘記的是, 我們要記得每天讀聖經領受的真理.

Alvin的分享-- In the Drawer

Today is one of those days that I need to wear my glasses. My eyes just became sore after lunch. The glasses cost me quite a bit because it is hard for me to find a frame that fits comfortably. Still I don’t like to have anything in front of my eyes, and it is some kind of obstacle to me. I know I should wear it whenever I am sitting in front of the computer for a long time (that basically means every day), but for over a year it has not become a habit yet. The only time I think of it is when my eyes feel terribly tired and sore. Tomorrow I probably will put the glasses back in the nice looking case and leave it in the drawer. You know, sometimes that’s also how we treat God and our fellowship with Him. Our restored relationship with God is paid by a costly sacrifice of Jesus. Do we treasure it? Yes, No, May be. There are times we don’t want God’s participation and intervention in our life especially when we are on cruise control. We may put Him aside until we have to send our S.O.S. Is God somewhere in one of your deep drawers? Or, is He actively involved in your everyday life?

還記得曾經有好幾個人對我說過, 一個旅程的結束其實是另一個旅程的開始, 而人生裏就是有很多不同的 “旅程”.
剛離開bay area一星期, 覺得時間過得好慢. 所有野也算settle down 了, 沒有在campus 迷路 (暫時), 至少識去class rooms, book store, student center, international center同埋識得找野食. VCD Norte (my apartment) 非常好, 我住左Graduate section, 所以好寧靜. 坐shuttle 返學又非常方便. 現在還有一間很不錯的church (cbccoc). Those already fit my needs and wants.
如Alvin 說, 我該懂得去看自己所擁有的, 而不應去看自己缺少的. 現在我很滿足了. 之後的日子就是一個好好的機會給我學習, 讓我成長.
感謝神!! 有時覺得祂真的很了解我, 知道我是怎樣的人就給我適當的挑戰, 讓我學識獨立, 讓我一步步地成長.
第一次去活石團契, 感覺很不錯. 剛巧他們分享的其中一首歌是 “全因為你”, 是我很喜歡的一首歌. 也就是離開bay area 前一晚在Janet 家分享的一首歌. 彷忽神在告訴我很多東西正在弦續下去 – 我的教會生活, 團契生活, 那當然還有和你們的友誼. 我該好好珍惜我所有的.
活石是一個College團契, 每一個也在讀書, 所以特別有親切感. 和以前不一樣, 我再不是大家的小妹妹, 我現在也算比較大的一個, 哈哈, 突然覺得自己好老.
今早my mom and aunties 走了, 有點不捨. 由今天起我要靠自己, of course 也有父神一起與我同行.
剛與鄧牧師,師母吃過午飯, 他們好nice, 好好人, I feel so warm.
明天會去Sunday school, worship, lunch @ church. 就這樣慢慢展開我的新生活.

We want to beef up the fellowship programs with more Biblical material and we’ve been looking for the right package. With God’s timely provision, we’ve found a DVD curriculum "Faith Lessons on the Promised Land" with study guides. That is the first volume of the “Faith Lessons” series, and there are other volumes with different themes. Filmed on location in Israel and Turkey, Faith Lessons is an in-depth video tour of the buried, distant, or otherwise forgotten places where the stories of the Bible actually happened. From this cultural perspective, teacher and historian Ray Vander Laan challenges long-held Western assumptions about even the most well-known Scripture passages. The first Faith Lessons volume focuses on God putting his mark on a people and their land, a mark he has extended through ancient Israel to the faithful of today. Each episode comes with Bible scriptures and discussion section. We are looking forward to learn together with this curriculum. Expected start date is mid November.

Be submissive to be shaped or molded

We, as the worthless clay pot, was carrying dirt in the past. We are now cleaned by God to carry something precious from Him. Still, this clay pot will be forgotten like the catalyst after the chemical reaction. The potter designs the pot and shapes it for his purpose. He will also test it continuously.

Praise the Lord with a thankful heart for the past weekend. It was wonderful in many special ways. Seek Him First and Pray For Each Other

Movie outreach night in Oct--Pray for those we will invite and for the preparation of the event. It is a good opportunity for us to experience God and to work with others in unity.
New pastor for English congregation--Pray that God provides the wisdom, the path and the selection, and through this process we all see His vision and direction as one body of Christ. Pray for the interim arrangement and the patience to seek His will. At the same time, thank God for Pastor Darren and his family for being faithful servants all these years and pray that God lead them every step of the way in the coming days.
Fellowship retreat. Pray for the preparation going on right now, our speaker Pastor Clement, the safety on the road and most of all a heart to learn from God’s word and each other.
Janet’s taking the driving test on Friday. Pray for her safety, confidence and calmness. (Pray for the DMV examiner and other cars on the road too. Hahaha…)
Si-Yin’s knee and back pain. Pray that God will guide her through the treatment and give her the assurance that God’s watching over.
The Chinese students in CSU East Bay. Pray that God prepares a way, through our church or others, to reach out to them and to build a bridge to the Good News.
Chinese class will begin in Sept--Pray for the kids for a willing heart to come and their parents for opportunities to build relationships with them. Pray for the teachers and their wisdom and perseverance and especially their loving hearts. It is also a great way to disciple the teenage helpers.
Choir--Choir practice has resumed, and we pray that God provides us more people in His time.

Home Fellowship and BBQ 8/18/2007

Last Sat we had home fellowship at Alvin's place. After singing some songs, many of us shared on things God allowed us to experience during the week....from jury duty to God's guidance at work to drinking the water from a swimming pool scheduled to be cleaned. In the special program, each of us had to teach the others some skill or trick in 5 min. We learned some Mandarin tongue-twister, poker card trick, exercises, origami craft and maintenance on car, teeth and cat. The fun time continued with the BBQ dinner and later some interesting conversation and card games. It was great that some of our parents and family members were able to join us too. What a blessed day!

The committee will have a meeting this Sunday afternoon to work on the Sept to Nov 2007 schedule. We will also need to finalize the retreat items. Joan is helping us on the campbook design in HK and Emily and Joyce are trying to come up with a meal schedule. Felix has already contacted the retreat site for direction and instruction, and transportation arrangement is being made. Another news is Angela C-Mo will join us. At some point we really worried about the lack of attendants in this retreat, but God not only provided us a wonderful site (http://www.sugarpinecabin.com/) but also the people to make it happen. Please keep praying for the retreat and our speaker Passtor Clement. Certainly we will post the pictures and sharings here later.
